Sciatica is one of the most common types of problem that affects the maximum number of people. Most of you do not even know that Sciatica is a nerve that gets affected and eventually it aches as we age. In this problem, the nerve gets affected; to those who are not aware of the nerve.
Let me guide you. This is the largest nerve in the body running from the lower back portion extended downwards to both the legs. When this nerve gets affected, it begins to ache. So basically, when it aches, half of your lower back till either of your legs aches badly. It is a medical condition which is determined by pain going down the leg from the lumbar spine. This chronic pain can go down the back, front of the leg, toes, and foot.
How does Sciatica happen?
When there is too much of pressure on the sciatic nerve, it causes radiating pain which can begin from your lower back and can stretch till the fingers of your foot. This pain differs from patient to patient. From mild to acute, it affects different people in different ways. There are more than 10 million people who suffer from this pain every year, as reported in a research conducted.
This pain can be diagnosed on its own because of its common nature. As most of you are aware of it, the sooner you experience regular acute pain in the lower portion of your body till your legs or if you feel any sort of numbness, you know that you’re probably suffering from sciatica.
Symptoms of Sciatica
Because this problem is a common one, its symptoms are also more or less the same –
- Lower back pain
- Pain in the rear leg
- Pain at the back of your legs till ankle or your feet
- Pain while sitting
- Hip pain while sitting
- You will face difficulty in walking
- Will not be able to perform a couple of exercises due to extreme pain in your legs
- Burning or tingling sensation starting from the lower back & extended till your feet
- Weakness and fatigue
- Constant pain in either of your legs
- Stiffness in your legs and back portion
- Some people also might face difficulty while bending
This is very unusual that till now no such evidence is found for the cause of Sciatica. The doctors are yet not able to relate that why this nerve aches. But this is sure that the most common cause known by default is the deficiency of vitamin D and vitamin C and various other nutrients in our body. While the ache is acute in some cases, it is advisable to take rest and proper medication or physiotherapy as advised by your doctor. There are a couple of exercises for your lower back portion and your legs that will reduce the amount of pain if performed regularly.
Sciatica problem, though very painful at times, but is curable by various physiotherapies and medications. So, just do exercise regularly and get rid of this problem. Also, you can apply some home remedies.
